The Appalachian Mountain Club promotes the protection, enjoyment, and wise use of the mountains, rivers, and trails of the Northeast. Many of its activities are run by local Chapters, the following are active in Northern New England:

The Adirondack Mountain Club -- ADK -- is dedicated to the protection and responsible recreational use of the New York State Forest Preserve, parks and other wild lands and waters.

The membership of the Adirondack Forty Sixers consists of hikers who have climbed to the summits of the 46 major peaks of the Adirondacks. The club is dedicated to environmental protection, to education for proper usage of wilderness areas and to participation in work projects in cooperation with the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation to meet these objectives.

The Cohos Trail is a 159-mile remote and wild trail in northern-most New Hampshire.

For over 100 years, Bostonians and others have come for the Blue Hills fresh air and gorgeous vistas. The Friends of the Blue Hills has fought successfully since 1976 to preserve the Reservation for hikers and cyclists, horseback riders and skiers. We encourage young people to care for our magnificent park, while challenging those who threaten its future.

The Friends of the Middlesex Fells Reservation is an all volunteer organization with a mission to protect and preserve the natural and historic resources of the Fells. In addition, we assist the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) in educating the public about the natural, cultural and appropriate recreational features in the Fells.

The Green Mountain Club and its 7500 plus members from across the country share a love for hiking and a commitment to preserving and protecting the Long Trail System for future generations.

The Metacomet Monadnock Trail is a long distance hiking foot path that is maintained by the Berkshire chapter of the Appalachian Mountain club and other volunteers. It is approximately 117 miles from the Metacomet trail on the Connecticut State line to Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire.

The Midstate Trail is a scenic footpath located in Worcester County, 45 miles west of Boston. This 92 mile hiking trail extends from Rhode Island crossing the gentle hills of central Massachusetts and eventually connecting to the Wapack Trail in New Hampshire. The Midstate Trail is highly accessible, easy to hike and the best way to enjoy the natural side of the region.

The Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway is a hiking trail that links Grand Monadnock with Mount Sunapee in southwestern New Hampshire. It is nearly 50 miles in length, winding along the Monadnock Highlands that divide the Connecticut and Merrimack River drainages.

The purpose of the Randolph Mountain Club is to promote enjoyment of the Randolph, New Hampshire area through hiking, trail development, upkeep of camps and shelters, and sharing the collective knowledge of its members.

Founded by a handful of concerned citizens in 1901, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests (SPNHF) has today grown into one of the country's most effective statewide land conservation groups.

The Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway Coalition maintains a 75-mile emerald necklace of hiking trails, surrounding Lake Sunapee, Ragged and Kearsarge Mountains.

Trailwrights is a non-profit volunteer organization, the purpose of which is to promote environmentally sound techniques of trail maintenance and safe ethical hiking practices.

The Wapack Trail goes from Mount Watatic in Ashburnham, MA, to North Pack in Greenfield, NH, passing through sections of Ashburnham and Ashby, MA, and New Ipswich, Temple, Sharon, Peterborough and Greenfield, NH.
